Erosion-Geology
Processes of ersosion--geology vocab
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Landform | A physical feature on Earth’s surface |
| Weathering | The process of breaking rock into soil, sand, and other tiny pieces |
| Erosion | The process of moving sediment from one place to another |
| Deposition | The process of dropping, or depositing, sediment in a new location |
| Mass Movement | The downhill movement of rock and soil because of gravity- ex: landslide, mudslide. (sinkhole and creep are due to water over time) |
| Sediment | Small pieces of materials like rock, sand, and soil; forces such as flowing water or wind often erode sediment. |
| Sedimentary Rock | Solid rock formed by sediment that has settled and has been packed into layers over many years; most fossils are found in these types of rock |
| Delta | Landform created as sediment in a river is deposited(dropped) as the river enters another body of water |
| Sand Dune | Hill caused by wind eroding (moving) the sand |
| Canyon | Deep divide created between cliffs as water and/or ice weather (wear away) and erode (move) softer rock |
