| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Physical Changes | A change that occurs without changing the identity of the substance. |
| Chemical Changes | A change that occurs by changing the identity of the substance. |
| Mixture | When 2 or more substances combine physically. |
| Compound | When 2 or more substances are combined chemically and can't be separated by physical means. |
| Homogeneous mixture | Parts are mixed evenly throughout.(same) |
| Heterogeneous mixture | Parts are uneven throughout.(different) |
| Solution | Type of mixture where the solute is dissolved/mixed evenly in the solvent. |
| Solute | The part of the solution that dissolves. |
| Solvent | The part of the solution that the solute dissolves in. |
| Atom | Smallest unit of matter. |
| Element | One of the 100 or more units that make up all matter, and found on the Periodic Table. |
| Mass | How much matter is in something. |
| Reactant | The elements and compounds you start with in a reaction/equation. |
| Product | The elements and compounds that you end with in a reaction/equation. |
| Reactivity | The ability to react with another element or compound. |
| Coefficient | The number in front of the molecule. |
| Subscript | The number to the bottom right of an element that tells how many atoms there are of that element. |
| Alkali Metals | Group 1 a highly reactive group of metals that makes compounds with Group 7 (17). |
| Halogens | Group 7 (17) a highly reactive group of non-metals that makes compounds with Group 1. |
| Noble Gases | Group 8 (18) a group of non-reactive, non-metals that are all gases at room temperature. |
