Atom | small particle that makes up most types of matter. |
Law of Conservation of Matter | Which says matter is not created or destroyed-- only changes form. |
Electrons | negatively(-) charged particles |
Nucleus | Central part of the atom |
Protons | positively(+)charged particles in the nucleus |
Neutrons | uncharged particles |
Element | matter made of only 1 kind of matter |

Isotopes | atoms of the same element that have different #'s of neutrons. |
Mass # | is the # of protons + the # of neutrons in contains |
Atomic mass | weighted average mass of the isotopes of an element. |
Metals | have a shiny or metallic luster & good conductors of heat and electricity. |
Non-metals | elements that are usually dull. Most poor conductors of heat & electricity. Many are gases except for bromine which is a liquid. |
Mettalloids | elements that have characteristics of metals & non-metals. Solids,shiny, & not the best conductors. |
Substance | matter that has the same composion & properties throughout. |
Compound | substance whose smallest unit is made up of atoms that bounds together |
Mixture | when 2 or more substances come together |
