What is peritonitis? inflammation of peritoneum by infection or chemical irritant
What is caused by the inflammatory process of peritonitis? inflammation causes third spacing leading to hypovolemia then septecemia
Signs & Symptoms of peritonitis severe ab pain, RIGID AB, decreased peristalsis, distention, vomiting, nausea, paralytic ileus,fever, malaise,hiccups, tachycardia, dehydration, shock & respiratory compromise
Diagnosing peritonitis WBC with differential (elevated), blood cultures, ab x-ray & diagnostic PARACENTESIS
Which client would do a paracentesis? trauma pt or ascites(due to cancer)
