Scientific Method

QuestionAnswer
Conclusion The results of the experiment.
Analyze Explains the data- usually a graph. The independent variable is on the X axis and the dependent variable is on the Y axis. X is on the bottom and Y is high-(going up the left side)
Scientific Method Guide for solving problems.
Experiment Tests a hypothesis.
Hypothesis Suggested answer- or guess to the question that can be tested. Uses the independent variable and dependent variable in a If- independent, then- dependent variable.
Control Variables The set up of the experiment that are not allowed to change.
Independent Variable The one thing in the experiment that is different and you are in control of.
Biology The Study of Life. Bio means life. Ology means the study of.
Observations Exactly what happened. No opinion should be included.
Data Usually put in a Data Table- the measurements taken during an experiment.
Quantitative Data Data that uses measurement and numbers. Example: The pencil was 8 inches long. There were only 5 eggs in the nest.
Qualitative Data Data that uses descriptions. Ex: The air smelled like burnt wood. The rabbit was faster than the fox. It sounded like pebbles on the roof.
Dependent Variable What you will observe and measure.
