shock a clinical syndrome of hypotension resulting from a decreased circulating blood volume.
shock may be caused by any of the following: a decrease of blood volume within the vasculature, the inability of the heart to pump the blood through the circulation, changes in peripheral VR
Hypovolemic Shock loss of fluid, but loss to areas of the body where there is no circulation.
cardiogenic shock shock due to failure of heart to pump well, valves incompetent.,
obstructive shock block outside of the heart.pulmonary embolus, cardiac tamponade
distributive shock x3 septic shock - Gram negative bacteria cause severe infection. Blood poisoning. Anaphylactic shock- dialated vessels become leaky, allergic reaction. neurogenic shock - lack of balance between para and sympathetic. emotional stress...
neurogenic shock - not spinal shock neurogenic shock has vasovagal syncope
endocrine shock too much/too little hormones. ex. hypothyroidism- reduces CO hypotension and respiratory insufficiency. thyrotoxicosis- lowers CO, acute adrenal insufficiency 0 result of discontinuing with drugs
compensated shock first stage, induces baroreceptor reflex, stimulates RAA pathway, and/or relase of ADH
