Description of NAD/RID Code of Professional Conduct

QuestionAnswer
Confidentiality: Hold position of trust. Exceptions inlcude laws. Share as needed, shredding or locking your files, inform when you must tell.
Professionalism: Stay abreast of language and deaf community. Provide service to all, make adjustments as needed, render the message faithfully/correct errors, request support, refrain from counsel or advice and consumer's rights.
Conduct: Present appropriately in demeanor and appearance. Placement and adaptions, decline assignments if ill, avoid dual/conflicting roles, workplace CPC, choice of attire, no mind-altering substances, inform of/avoid conflicts and refrain from personal gain.
Respect for consumers: Honor consumers preferences. Language preferences, render the message faithfully, approach consumers with a professional demeanor, consent to bring intern and support full interaction.
Respect for colleagues: Collaborate with colleagues. Maintain civility, consulation before assignments, monitoring accuracy, discuss privately, assist and encourage, consent to bring intern.
Business practices: Living wages, working conditions for effective service delivery. Represent qualifications, honor commitments, promote effective communication, inform if delayed or unable to fulfill assignments, option to decline, render pro bono services, charge fair and reasonable.
Professional Development: Ongoing development. Knowledge and strengthen skills, keep abreast of laws, politics, rules and regulations that affect the profession.
