Network hardware

TermDefinition
Router A device that connects different networks together and forwards data packets between them.
Switch A device that connects devices within the same network and forwards data only to the intended recipient.
Hub A basic device that connects multiple devices in a network, broadcasting data to all connected devices.
Firewall A security device that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predefined security rules.
Wireless Access Point A device that allows wireless devices to connect to a wired network using Wi-Fi.
Modem A device that converts digital data from a computer into analog signals for transmission over telephone or cable lines.
Wireless Repeater A device that extends the range of a wireless network by receiving and retransmitting signals.
Network Interface Card Hardware that allows a computer to connect to a network and communicate with other devices.
Network Attached Storage A device that provides centralized storage accessible to users and devices over a network.

Content Delivery Network A network of distributed servers that deliver web content to users based on their geographic location, improving loading times.

Intrusion Detection System Monitors network traffic for suspicious activities and alerts administrators about potential security breaches.
Intrusion Prevention System Similar to IDS, but it can also actively block or prevent unauthorized access or attacks.
Network Printer A printer that connects directly to a network, allowing multiple users to print without the need for direct cable connections.
VoIP Phone A phone that uses Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology to make phone calls over a network, often the internet.
