QuestionAnswer
run on sentences consists of two or more sentences that run together without punctuation.
singular nouns names one person, place, thing or idea.
compound nouns a noun of two or more words.
plural noun names more than one thing.
counterclaim to state the opposite claim.
what is summarizing? to give a brief statement of the main points of something.
how do you quote others? to say the exact same words as the person who originally said them and put quotations marks around the sentence or sentences.
free verse poetry that does not rhyme or have a regular meter.
alliteration the reoccurred of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
what is paraphrasing? a rewording of something written or spoken by someone else.
enjambment the continuation of a sentence without a pause beyond the end of Aline,couplet,or stanza.
metaphor a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable.
onomatopoeia sounds
rhyme scheme pattern of rhymes at the end of each line.
rebuttal the come back to the other sides of the claim and evidence.
evidence the prof of your side of the story.
claim your side and the statement of the essay.
stanza an argument of a certain number of lines.
simile compare two things using like or as
qualifier words or phrases added on to another word to modify its meaning.
warrant to state the opposite of your evidence
differences between mood and tone? is the attitude of the author toward the poem. is the attitude toward the implied subject.
verse a single metrical line in a poetic composition
tone is the writers implied attitude toward the poem.
theme the statement the poem/poet makes about its subject.
symbol associate two things, but their meaning is both literate and figurative.
rhythm a pattern of one stressed and unstressed syllable.
meter is a recurring pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables.
diction the choice and use of words and phrases in a speech or writing.
consonance the recurrence of similar sounds, especially consonants.
ballad a poem or song narrating a story in short stanzas.
allusion an expression designed to call something t mind without mentioning ti explicitly, an indirect or passing reference.
what is a parenthetical citation? citations to original sources that appear in the text of your paper.
possesive nouns shows ownership or relationship
collective noun names a group or collection of people, animals or things considered a unit.
proper noun names a particular person, place , thing or idea.
common nouns names a general class of a person, place ,thing or idea.
abstract noun names ideas, feelings or qualities.
concrete noun refers to material things, to people, or to places.
fragment sentences a word group that does not have both a subject and a predicate or dues not to have an express thought.
