What is Sparta's main way of life? Harsh. Children were beat and trained.
What is Athens' main way of life? Free and open. Children had to go to school.
What is Sparta's role for citizens? The men had to go off to fight in war.
What is Athens' role for citizens? The men could get any job they wanted.
What is the role of women in Sparta? They were treated fairly so they could produce strong and healthy babies.
What is the role of women in Athens? They had to clean the house and look after slaves.
What is Sparta's attitude toward art and learning? The whole goal was just to make a strong military force.
What is Athens' attitude toward art and learning? They liked plays and architecture to beautify the town.
What is Sparta? A city-state in the southern part of ancient Greece.
What is a helot? A member of a certain class of ancient servants in Sparta.
What is the Peloponnesian War? A war fought between Athens and Sparta in ancient Greece, involving almost every other Greek city-state.
What is a plague? A wide-spread disease.
What is a blockade? An action taken to isolate an enemy and cut off its supplies.
