Stamen | Male reproductive part of flower; contains filament, anther, and pollen. |
Filament | Raises anther up to pollinators. |
Anthers | Produce pollen grains; the pollen grains rest on the anthers. |
Pistil | Female reproductive part of flower; contains ovule, ovary, style, and stigma. |
Ovule | Produces the plant's egg. |
Ovary | Swollen base of pistil, where ovules are formed. |
Style | A hollow tube connecting the stigma and ovary: raises stigma so flower's own pollen won't get on its stigma. |
Stigma | Catches pollen from another plant's flower using a sticky substance. |
Petal | A leaf that is colorful so that it attracts pollinators. |
Sepal | A special leaf that protects the bud, and later the underside of the flower. |
