Criminalistics | A criminalist collects, identifies, and analyzes physical evidence from the crime scene. There are many roles within Criminalistics; this scientist is usually someone who has many areas of expertise. |
Crime Scene Investigator | They gather information at crime scenes, search for evidence, collect the evidence, and preserve the evidence. They also run tests as the crime scene and work to reconstruct the order of events that occurred during the crime. |
Forensic Medicine | They study injury and disease to determine the manner of death, the medical examiner performs autopsies. |
Forensic Toxicology | This scientist identifies and analyzes, poisons, drugs, and chemicals, and studies the effect on the body |
Forensic Anthropology | They study bones in order to identify human remains and to determine age, gender, race and any other information that can be learned from the bones. |
Forensic Entomology | Identifies insects on a decomposing body and studies their life cycles to determine how much time has passed since death occurred |
Forensic Dentistry | Also known as, odontology, the scientists study human remains by matching teeth and dental records and examine bite marks. |
Forensic Art | Use knowledge of human anatomy and digital technology to create age progressions on facial reconstructions to help identify missing children, criminal suspects of crime victims. |
Forensic Psychology and psychiatry | Studies human or criminal psychology and behavior to profile criminals and victims in order to understand their lives and the circumstances around the crime. |
Jurisprudence | A lawyer who specializes in forensic issues, could be working as a prosecutor or a criminal defense lawyer. |
