Class: | Sympathomimetic Bronchodilator |
Description: | Synthetic sympathomimetic stimulating beta-2 receptors in the bronchi, leading to bronchodilation, has minimal beta-1 stimulation, less cardiac effect than epi, reduces mucus secretion, pulmonary capillary leaking and edema during allergic reations |
Onset: | 5-15 minutes after inhalation |
Duration: | 3-4 minutes after inhalation |
Indications: | Bronchospasm, Asthma, COPD |
Contraindication: | Hypersensitivity, Cardiac dysrhythmias associated with tachycardias |
Adverse Reactions: | Restlessness, Dizziness, Dysrhythmias, Nausea, Increase in BP, Use with caution in the elderly, cardiac, or hypertensive patient, apprehension, palpitations, tachycardia, cough |
Dosage/Route: | 2 inhalations (90mcg) via metered dose inhaler (2 sprays), 2.5mg in 3ml NS via Nebulized updraft, repeat as needed |
Drug Interactions: | Beta Blockers are antagonistic, May potentiate Hypokalemia |
