The Nagi Model Pathology: | An interruption or interference in the bodyʼs normal processes and the simultaneous efforts of the systems to regain homeostasis. Pathology occurs at the cellular level. |
The Nagi Model Impairment: | The loss or abnormality at the tissue, organ or body system level. This can be of an anatomic, physiologic, mental or emotional nature. Impairments occur at the organ level. |
The Nagi Model Functional limitation: | The inability to perform an action or skill in a normal manner due to an impairment. Functional limitations are at the level of the whole person. |
The Nagi Model Disability: | Any restriction or inability to perform a socially defined role within a social or physical environment due to an impairment. Environmental barriers impose disability. |
The International Classification of Impairment, Disabilities, & Handicaps The | World Health Organization (WHO) developed this model in 1980 with the focus on the long-term impact of non-fatal or chronic diseases. The model is defined by four primary concepts: |
(ICIDH Model) Disease: | A biomechanical, physiological or anatomical abnormality within the body. |
(ICIDH Model) Impairment: | The loss or abnormality of psychological, physiological or anatomical structure or function. Impairments occur at the organ level. |
(ICIDH Model) Disability: | The inability to perform an activity in a normal manner due to an impairment. Disability occurs at the level of the whole person. |
(ICIDH Model)Handicap: | The inability to perform in a social role due to social or environmental restrictions. Handicap occurs in a person-to-person or person-to-environment level. |
