What does the imperfect tense denote? | The imperfect tense is the past form of the progressive system. It always indicates continuous or repeated action. |
How is the imperfect indicative identified? | The imperfect indicative uses an augment, the present stem, then a secondary ending. |
What is the augment? | In verbs that begin with a consonant, the augment consists of an ἐ as a prefix. In verbs that begin with a vowel, the augment normally consists in a lengthening of that vowel. |
How are the first person singular and third person plural distinguished in the imperfect active indicative? | The first person singular and the third person plural of the imperfect active indicative are identical. They are distinguished by context. |
