Habitat | A place where an organism lives out its life |
Niche | The role and position a species has in its environment-how it meets its needs for food and shelter, how it survives, and how it reproduces. |
Population | A group of organisms of one species that interbreed and live in the same place at the same time. |
Community | A collection of interacting populations |
Predators | animals that eat and kill other animals |
Prey | animals that predators eat |
Intraspecific Competition | occurs between orgs. of the same species |
Interspecific Competition | occurs between orgs. of different species, caused by niche overlap |
Predation | when one organism feeds off another (prey) |
Symbiosis | Any relationship in which two species live closely together |
Mutualism | both species benefit from the relationship |
Commensalism | one member of the association benefits and the other is neither helped nor harmed. |
Parasitism | one organism lives on or inside another organism and harms it |
Population Growth | an increase in the size of a population over time |
Exponential Growth | a population gets larger, it also grows faster |
Logistic Growth | occurs when a population's growth slows or stops following a period of exponential growth. |
