commensalisms | a relationship where only one thing benifits from a symbiosis |
mutalism | a relationship between 2 organisms in which both benefit |
parasitism | one organism(the parasite) lives on and obtains its food from another organism- (the host) host is harmed not helped |
consumer | organism that gets its energy from eating other organisms or plants |
producer | organism that can make its own food by photosynthesis or chemosynthesis |
herbivore | organisms that eat only plants |
carnivore | consumer that eat only meat |
omnivore | consumers that eat both plants and animals |
decomposer | organism that breaks down tissue and released nutrients and carbon dioxide back into the ecosystem |
scavenger | a consumer of dead or decaying plant matter and animal. It eats things that are dead or have been killed by something else |
food chain | series of stages that shows the transfer of energy from producers to consumers and decomposers |
food web | combination of all the overlapping food chains in an ecosystem |
limit factor | any condition that influences the growth or survival of an organism of species (ex. wind, water,air) |
nonliving limiting factor | each organism fills a certain niche in its community and competition results when two organisms try to fill the same niche. They will compete for food, water, ect |
predator | animals that eat and catch other organisms |
prey | the animals predators eat |
adaptation | a characeristic that increased the chance of an organism to survive in an environment |
