| Term | Definition |
| star | an exploding ball of burning gas, held together by gravity |
| light-year | the distance light can travel in one year |
| solar flare | areas where a large amount of energy is released to the surface of the Sun |
| nebula | huge cloud of gases and dusts where stars form |
| red giant | colored red and they are very large; they expand because hydrogen moves away from center of star |
| white dwarf | a small and very dense star that shines with a cool white light |
| black hole | an object that is so dense and has such powerful gravity that nothing can escape from it, not even light |
| supernova | an exploding star |
| protostar | beginning star or baby star |
| galaxy | a collection of billions of stars |
| universe | Everything!! It includes all of space, and all the matter and energy that space contains |
| constellation | a group of stars that form a shape or a picture |
