Question | Answer |
Angina Pectoris & Causes | *chest pain from ischemia (lack of O2) to cardiac muscle , difficult to distinguish between angina pectoris and myocardial infarction |
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) | *condition that reduces blood flow through the coronary arteries to the heart muscle |
Shock | *inability for the blood to circulate throughout the body to cells and provide: 02, glucose, removal of waste. When cells can't circulate hypoperfusion syndrome shock can develop |
What are the stages of shock? | Compensated, Decompensated and irreversible shock |
What is compensated shock? | heart rate and respiratory rate may increase but patient will continue to perfuse |
What is decompensated shock? | compensating mechanisms begin to fail and heart rate and respiratory rate initially increase but blood pressure will drop, and patient will exhibit more severe signs and symptoms of shock. |
What is irreversible shock? | no resuscitative effort will preserve life |
Classifications of shock | Hypovolemic (classic) shock, obstructive, cardiogenic and distributive shock. |
What is hypovolemic (classic) shock? | the standard by which other forms of shock are diagnosed and treated |
What is obstructive shock? | blockage prevents blood flow to the heart |
What is cardiogenic shock? | inadequate pumping of the heart reduces circulation |
What is distributive shock? | abnormal distribution of blood in the body prevents perfusion |
What are the signs and symptoms of decompesated (progressive) shock? | breathing slows, becomes labored and is irregular. circulatory- bp decreases and there are weak or absent pulses. skin is ashen, mottled or cyanotic. eyes are dull and pupils are dilated |
