MOA | Inhibit protein synthesis in bacteria by binding ribosomes |
CI | Acne, chronic bronchities, Lyme disease, walking pneumonia, prophylaxis for traveler's diarrhea |
AR | Gastrointestinal such as nausea and vomiting, photosensitivity to the sun resulting in rashes and sunburns |
SC | May bind to antacids and dairy products and therefore decrease the effectiveness of antibiotic. Should be taken several hours apart from dairy and antacids. Children under 9 yrs should not take. Expired meds can result in death. |
SC continued | Tetracycline injections can be stored at room temperature for 12 hours. Doxycycline should be protected from light and reconsituted suspension can be stored at room temperature but will expire in 14 days. |
