| Term | Definition |
| force | a push or pull that can act on or change an object |
| non-contact force | a force that does not need to touch an object to affect it, such as gravity |
| gravity | a force that pulls masses toward large objects, such as the Earth and the sun |
| contact force | a push or pull that moves or changes an object when two objects touch |
| friction | an opposing force caused by two objects touching each other |
| deduce | to form an idea based on evidence* |
| acceleration | a change in an object’s direction or speed |
| inertia | an object’s ability to oppose a change in motion |
| formula | a math problem that shows a scientific fact* |
| balanced | when two equal forces acting on an object cancel out each other’s effect on the object |
| compute | to find or calculate* |
