| Question | Answer |
| What is Homeostasis? | The condition in which to body's internal environment remains relatively constant within physiological limits. |
| What is Intracellular Fluid? | ICF Fluid located within cells. |
| What is Extracellular Fluid? | ECF Fluid outside body cells, such as interstitial fluid and plasma. |
| What is Interstitial Fluid? | The portion of extracellular fluid that fills the microscopic spaces between the cells of tissues; the internal environment of the body. Also called intercellular or tissue fluid. |
| What is ECF called within the blood vessels? | Blood plasma. |
| What is ECF called within the lymphatic vessels? | Lymph. |
| What is ECF called in and around the brain and spinal cord? | Cerebrospinal fluid. |
| What is ECF called in joints? | Synovial fluid. |
| What is ECF of the eyes called? | Aqueous humor and vitreous body. |
| What is a feedback system or feedback loop? | A cycle of events in which the status of a body condition is monitored, evaluated, changed, remonitored, reevaluated, and so on. |
| What are the three basic components of a feedback system? | A receptor, a control centre, and an effector. |
| What is a receptor? | A body structure that monitors changes in a controlled condition and sends input to a control center. Typically the input is in the form of nerve impulses or chemical signals. |
| What is a control centre? | For example, the brain, sets the range of values within which a controlled condition should be maintained, evaluates the input it receives from receptors, and generates output commands when they are needed. Output can be nerve impulses or hormones. |
| What is an effector? | it is a body structure that receives output from the control centre and produces a response or effect that changes the controlled condition. Nearly every organ or tissue in the body can behave as an effector |
| What is a negative feedback system? | It reverses a change in a controlled condition. |
| What is a positive feedback system? | Continually reinforces a change in a controlled condition, some event outside the system must shut it off. |
