| Axis | imaginary line about which an object rotates |
| Gravitational attraction | force of attraction between all masses in the universe, especially the attraction of the Earth's mass for bodies near its surface |
| Rotational axis | an imaginary line in which a three-dimensional object rotates around; the Earth spins on its axis |
| Prograde rotation | the counterclockwise spin of a planet or moon when seen from above the planet's or moon's north pole |
| Retrograde rotation | the clockwise spin of a planet or moon when seen from above the planet's or moon's north pole |
| Rotation | the spinning motion of a body on its axis |
| Tilt of the Earth's Axis | causes sunlight to hit different parts of the Earth more directly during the summer and less directly during the winter creating seasonal changes |
| Earth's rotation | causes night and day because the rotation causes locations on Earth to be rotating towards the sun and away from the sun. |
