| Consumer | An organism that eats other organisms as food. |
| Parasite | An organism, such as this tape worm, that steals nutrients from another organism. |
| Host | Organism that supports a parasite. |
| Organism | Any living thing, such as a plant or animal. |
| Population | A group of the same type of organism that lives in the same area. |
| Ecosystem | All of the biotic and abiotic parts of an area. |
| Food Web | Several overlapping food chains. |
| Food Chain | A model of how energy moves from producers to consumers. |
| Natural Selection | Helpful traits are passed on to new generations. |
| Camouflage | Blending in to the environment |
| Adaptation | A change in an organism that helps it survive. |
| Diapause | Insect form of hibernation |
| Migration | The movement of animals due to a change in season. |
| Pollution | Harmful substances mixing with the air, land, and/or water. |
| Overfishing | Catching large numbers of fish so as to deplete their populations. |
| Dead Zones | Low-oxygen areas in the world's oceans. |
| Watershed | Area of land that drains water from a higher area of land to a lower level of land and into a stream. |

| Surface Water | Water that is located at the Earth's surface. |
