Term | Definition |
Motion | The state in which one object's distance from another is changing |
Speed | A measurement that describes any object in motion |
Average speed | The overall rate of speed at which an object moves |
Instantaneous Speed | The speed of an object at one instant of time |
Velocity | Speed in a given direction. Velocity describes both an object's speed and the direction of its motion. |
Acceleration | Scientists define acceleration as the rate at which velocity changes. Acceleration has a more precise definition in science. |
Mass | A measure of the amount of matter in an object. The SI unit of mass in the kilogram. |
Inertia (Energy of change) | All Objects, moving or not, resist changes in motion. Resistance to change in motion is called Interia. Interia explains many common events, including why you move forward in your seat. |
