Pseudoscience | Belief or practice based on incorrectly applied scientific methods, "false" science |
Misconception | A mistaken thought, idea, or notion; a misunderstanding |
Hypothesis | A testable idea or explanation that leads to scientific investigation |
Theory | An idea or explanation that has already been repeatedly supported by research |
Law | A statement based on repeated experimental observation explaining an aspect of the universe; a "proven" explanation |
Independent variable | The factor deliberately manipulated in a scientific investigation |
Dependent variable | The factor that changes as a result of the manipulation of an independent variable |
Conclusion | The closing summary of the results of a scientific experiment, taking in the results of the collected data |
Data | Information gathered by experimentation or observation that is used in calculating or reasoning |
Control | Constant and unchanging standard of comparison a factor in an experiment that is held constant |
Correlation | A mutual relationship connecting two events; not necessarily cause |
Volume | Amount of space a substance or object occupies |
Mass | Amount of matter in an object |
Density | a measure of how much stuff an object has in a unit volume D= m/v |
Temperature | A measure of how hot or cold something is; measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a substance |
Length | The extent of something from one end to another |
