| cytoplasm | a jellylike substance that fills a cell |
| organelle | a part in a cell that floats in the cytoplasm and helps the cell carry out life functions |
| nucleus | the part of a cell that controls all the other parts..(plural ..nuclei) |
| mitochondria | structures in a cell that release most of a cells energy ..(singular...mitochondrion) |
| vacuole | a structure in a cell that stores food, water, or wastes |
| chloroplast | a part in a plant cell that uses sunlight to make food |
| cell wall | a thick, stiff covering around some cells, such as plant cells |
| tissue | a group of cells that work together to do a certain job |
| organ | a group of tissues that work together to do a certain job |
| mitosis | the division of the nucleus of a cell |
| chromosome | a thick strand of nuclear material that passes on traits from the parent cell to the daughter cells during cell reproduction |
| meiosis | the type of cellular reproduction that produces sex cells |
| ribosomes | organelles that make proteins for the cell |
| endoplasmic reticulum | a network of tubes inside a cell that helps in protein synthesis and transport |
| Golgi bodies | flattened, folded sacs that package and move materials within a cell |
| lysosomes | cell parts that contain chemicals that breakdown substances and old cell parts that the cell doesn't need |
| cell | the basic unit of structure and function in all living things |
