solid | Closely packed molecules, has its own shape |
liquid | Molecules that flow to take the shape of its container |
gas | Molecules expand to fill a container, molecules spread out |
mixture | When two or more substances combine |
solution | When a solid is mixed into a liquid and disappears, it looks the same throughout |

physical change | When a change in state happens, (melting, freezing, etc.) Mixing, but the item is still the same substance, reversible |

conduction | Transfer of heat through touch/direct contact |
convection | Transfer of heat through a liquid or a gas by rising and falling particles |
radiation | Transfer of heat through empty space, heat transfer from a distance |

insulators | Slow the transfer of heat. Plastics, wood, cork, cloth |
transpiration | Heat causes plants to release water vapor into the air |
condensation | Warm water vapor cooling down and forming into a liquid (clouds form) |
evaporation | The sun heats bodies of water, making the water turn to water vapor (gas) |
precipitation | Water falling to the Earth-rain, ice, hail, or dew |
convection current | A cycle of warm air rising and cold air flowing in to replace it (creates wind) |
