What is an abstract? | short summary of an entire experiment, gives idea of WHY |
What is a result section? | demonstrates what the data actually shows |
What is a methods section? | how the experiment was done |
What is a discussion section? | convince you why the data and how the anaylsis relates back to experiment objectives. |
points about effective scientific writing | concise, simple English, active voice, paragraphing well, grammar, revise |
What is a figure? | any visual that isnt a table |
What are graphs best for? | trends relating to controlled variables. relationships between variables, and trends that are difficult to discuss verbally. |
What are tables best for? | showing precise data, comparing groups using several unrelated variables not easily graphed. |
4 key tasks for discussion section? | 1. answer central question 2. note,discuss unexpected findings 3. relate results general understanding 4.make suggestions for further studies |
