Question | Answer |
Concussion | a traumatic brain injury that affects your brain function. Effects are usually temporary but can include headaches and problems with concentration, memory, balance and coordination. |
Contusion | a region of injured tissue or skin in which blood capillaries have been ruptured; a bruise. |
Laceration | a deep cut or tear in skin or flesh. |
Avulsion | a tearing away of a body part accidentally or surgically. |
Abrasion | An abrasion is an area on a person's body where the skin has been scraped. |
Sunburn | reddening, inflammation, and, in severe cases, blistering and peeling of the skin caused by overexposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun. |
First Aid | help given to a sick or injured person until full medical treatment is available. |
C.P.R | a procedure to support and maintain breathing and circulation for an infant, child, or adolescent who has stopped breathing (respiratory arrest) and/or whose heart has stopped (cardiac arrest). |
Bursitis | inflammation of a bursa, typically one in the knee, elbow or shoulder. |
Transverse Fracture | A transverse fracture is when the fracture line is perpendicular to the shaft (long part) of the bone. An oblique fracture is when the break is on an angle through the bone. |
Tendonitis | inflammation of a tendon, most commonly from overuse but also from infection or rheumatic disease. |
R.I.C.E | rest, ice, compression, elevation. |
Muscle Cramp | a sudden and involuntary contraction of one or more of your muscles. |
Hypothermia | the condition of having an abnormally low body temperature, typically one that is dangerously low. |
Frostbite | injury to body tissues caused by exposure to extreme cold, typically affecting the nose, fingers, or toes and sometimes resulting in gangrene. |
