Heredity | The passing of physical characteristics from parents to offspring. |
Trait | What it looks or acts like. |
Genetics | The study of heredity. |
Fertilization | When a new organism begins to form when egg and sperm cells join in the process. |
Purebred | When an animal has the same trait from generations ago. |
Gene | Factors that control traits. |
Allele | Are the different forms of a gene. |
Dominant Allele | One whose trait always shows up in the organism when the allele is present. |
Recessive Allele | Is hidden when ever the dominant allele is present. |
Hybrid | An organism that has to different allele for a trait. |
Probibilaty | A number on how likely something is to occur. |
Punnet square | A chart that shows all the possible ways allele can combine in a genetic cross. |
Phenotype | Physical traits. |
Genotype | Its genetic makeup or allele. |
Homozygous | An organism that has two identical allele for a trait. |
Heterozygous | An organism that has two different allele for a trait. |
Incomplete Dominance | Occurs when one allele is only partial dominant. |
Codominance | Occurs when both alleles for a gene are expressed equally. |
Multiple Alleles | When three or more alleles determine the trait. |
Polygenic Inheritance | Occurs when more than one allele affects the trait. |
Meiosis | The process in which the number of chromosomes is reduced by half as sex cell forms. |
