Autotroph | organism that gets its energy from nonliving sources, such as sunlight or inorganic chemicals. |
Heterotroph | Organism that gets its energy and nutrients by consuming other organisms |
Chemoautotroph | an organism, typically a bacterium, that derives energy from the oxidation of inorganic compounds. |
photoautotroph | organisms that carry out photosynthesis. Using energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide and water are converted into organic materials to be used in cellular functions such as biosynthesis and respiration. |
Calories | a measure of energy in food, specifically the measure of heat needed to raise a kilogram or a gram of water by one degree Celsius |
Energy | The capacity or power to do work, such as the capacity to move an object (of a given mass) by the application of force |

Roughage | fibrous indigestible material in vegetable foodstuffs that aids the passage of food and waste products through the gut. |
Cellulose | An insoluble substance that is main constituent of plant cell walls and of vegetable fibers such as cotton. It is a polysaccharide consisting of chains of glucose monomers. |
Body mass index | a weight-to-height ratio, calculated by dividing one's weight in kilograms by the square of one's height in meters and used as an indicator of obesity and underweight |
Absorpriom | Chemistry The process by which one substance, such as a solid or liquid, takes up another substance, such as a liquid or gas, through minute pores or spaces between its molecules. |
Diffusion | Movement of dissolved molecules in a fluid or gas from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. |
Villi | Any of numerous minute elongated projections set closely together on a surface, typically increasing its surface for the absorption of substances in particular. |
Constipatioin | a condition in which there is difficulty in emptying the bowels, usually associated with hardened feces. |
Macromolecules | a molecule containing a very large number of atoms, such as a protein, nucleic acid, or synthetic polymer. |
Bulimia | An eating disorder characterized by episodes of secretive excessive eating (binge-eating) followed by inappropriate methods of weight control, such as self-induced vomiting (purging), abuse of laxatives and diuretics, or excessive exercise. |
Anorexia | : An eating disorder characterized by markedly reduced appetite or total aversion to food .It is a condition that goes well beyond out-of-control dieting. The person with anorexia, most often a girl or young woman, initially begins dieting to lose weight. |
Enzyme | Protein that catalyzes chemical reactions for organisms |
