Term | Definition |
Photosynthesis | A process by which plants convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into sugar, oxygen, and water. |
Cellular respiration | The process by which the chemical energy of glucose is released and changed into ATP. |
Chloroplast | An elongated cell organelle containing chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place. |
Chlorophyll | A green molecule which uses light energy from sunlight to change water and carbon dioxide to create glucose and oxygen |
Glucose | A type of sugar that is created through photosynthesis. |
Mitochondria | creates ATP, H2O, and CO2 from O2 and sugar. |
Photosynthesis equation | H2O + CO2 + sun ----> O2 + C6H12O6 |
Respiration equation | O2 + sugar ----> CO2 + ATP + H2O |
Carbon Dioxide | Plants use it to make food. Animals breathe it out. |
Diffusion | The movement of molecules from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. Passive transport. |
Osmosis | The movement of water molecules from a lower concentration of salt and sugar to a higher concentration. |
Active transport | The movement of a particle around the cell. Uses energy. |
