variable | Any factor in an experiment that can have more than 1 value. |
independent variable | factors that the scientist changes on purpose, what is being tested |
dependent variables | the factor that is measured or observed during an experiment. |
controls | factors that remain the same in an experiment |
scientific inquiry | a process that uses skills and tools to answer a question |
data | measurements and observations collected during experiments |
hypothesis | a possible explanation about an observation that can be tested, an if, then statement |
conclusion | a summary of information gained from testing a hypothesis |
fair experiment | 1 independent variable, 1 dependent variable, many controls |
observation | using 1 or more of your senses to gather information |
prediction | an guess about what might happen next in a sequence of events. |
inference | an educated guess based on observations made |
