Term | Definition |
Life | Life is defined as the possession of the following characteristics: organisation, requiring nutrition and excretion, capable of reproducing and responding. |
Metabolism | The sum of the chemical reactions in a living thing. |
Continuity of Life | Living things arise from other living thing of the same type. |
Organisation | Living things are composed of cells, tissues, organs and organ systems. |
Nutrition | The way in which an organism obtains and uses its food. |
Excretion | The removal of the waste products of metabolism from the body. |
Reproduction | The formation of new individuals. |
Sexual Reproduction | The union of two sex cells (gametes). |
Asexual Reproduction | Does not require the union of two sex cells. |
Response | The way in which an organism reacts to changes in its enviroment. |
