Question | Answer |
What is Diffusion? | Diffusion is the movement of molecules so they mix. |
Which way do molecules move during the process of Diffusion? | Molecules move with the concentration gradient during Diffusion (they move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.) |
Does Diffusion require energy? | No |
What is Osmosis? | Special kind of Diffusion. Water molecules move through across plasma membrane. Occurs when a membrane has tiny holes which let water molecules pass through but not larger molecules (eg. sugar). A membrane like this is called semi-permeable. |
What is a semi-permeable membrane? | Only some substances can pass through it. |
Which way do water molecules move during the process of Osmosis? | With the concentration gradient (from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration). |
