Heterotrophs | they eat other oranisms |
Photosynthesis | carried out by plants. It takes radiant energy from the sun and puts it into sugar molecules. Occurs mostly in the chloroplasts of plant cells |
stomates | small holes in leaves to exchange gasses |
guard cells | they open and close the stomates |
respiration | organisms get energy by breaking the bonds of sugar molecules. The released energy is ATP |
aerobic respiration | this requires oxygen and yields more ATP (energy) |
anaerobic respiration | no oxygen is required to yield the ATP |
Active Transport | moving molecules from a low concentration to a high concentration |
osmosis | the diffusion of water into or out of the cell |
diffusion | the movement of molecules from high concentrations to low concentrations |
stimulus | a change in the environment that you respond to |
neuron | a nerve cell |
impulse | the electrical signal carried by nerves |
hormone | a chemical signal (insulin, adrenaline, testosterone) |
receptor molecules | proteins on the surface of the cell membrane that receive signals from the nervous system |
