Term | Definition |
Constant Feedback | Feedback given after every practice trial |
Summed Feedback | Feedback given after a set number of trials; ie every other or every third |
Faded feedback | Feedback given at first after every trial and then less frequently |
Bandwidth feedback | Feedback given only when performance is outside a given error range; but not if it falls within a predetermined range |
Delayed feedback | Feedback is given after a brief time delay; ie 3 seconds |
Massed Practice | A sequence of practice and rest times where the rest time is much less than the practice time |
Distributed Practice | A sequence of practice and rest periods where the practice time is equal to or less than the rest time |
Blocked Practice | A practice sequence that is organized around one task performed repeatedly, uninterrupted by practice on any other task; low contextual interference |
Serial Practice | A predictable and repeating order of practice of multiple tasks |
Random Practice | A practice sequence where the tasks being practices are order randomly across trials; high contextual interference |
Parts-to-Whole Practice | A practice sequence in which the task is broken down into its component parts for separate practice; then practiced as the integrated whole task |
Mental Practice | A practice method where performance of the motor task is imagined or visualized without overt physical practice |
