Ecosystem | All the living and nonliving things in an area and their interactions |
Habitat | Provides all the things an organism needs to live |
Biotic Factor | Living organisms |
Abiotic Factor | Nonliving organisms |
Population | A group of one species living in an area |
Community | Different populations in an area |
Niche | The role that an organism has in an ecosystem |
Carrying Capacity | The number of organisms that can live in a habitat |
Predator | An animal that hunts and eats another animal |
Prey | An animal that is hunted by a predator |
Producers | They make their own food for energy |
Consumers | Organisms that cannot make it's own food. They get energy from producers or other consumers. |
Herbivores | They only eat plants |
Carnivores | They only eat meats |
Omnivores | They consume both plants and meat |
Scavengers | They feed on dead animals |
Decomposers | They get their energy by breaking down wastes and dead organisms |
Food Chain | Series of steps by which energy moves from one type of living thing to another |
Food Web | A diagram that combines many food chains to one picture |
Symbiosis | A long-term relationship between two different organisms |
Parasites | A organism that lives in or on other organisms |
