seminal vesicle | lies between the bladder and the rectum, and produces a fluid rich in sugars that sperm use for energy |
prostate gland | located just below the bladder, and secretes an alkaline fluid that neutralizes the acids in the female reproductive system |
bulbourethral gland | secretes an alkaline fluid that neutralizes traces of acidic urine in the urethra |
semen | a fluid formed by sperm and secretions |
penis | the organ that deposits sperm in the female reproductive system |
ejaculation | when semen is forcefully expelled from the penis by contractions of the smooth muscles that line the urethra |
