Term | Definition |
Dominant | Stronger of the two genes represented by a capital letter |
Recessive | gene that shows up less often represented by a lower case letter |
Genotype | actual gene combination for a trait (e.g. RR, Rr, rr) |
Phenotype | what you can see from looking at something ( e.g. red, white) |
Heterozygous | Different genes ( Dominant + Recessive) |
Homozygous | Genes are the same (Dominant + Dominant) (Recessive + Recessive) |
Heredity | The passing of traits from parents to offspring |
Dominant Traits | Observed when offspring have either one or two dominant factors |
Recessive Traits | Observed only when two recessive genetic factors are present in offspring |
Gene | A section of DNA on a chromosome that has a genetic info for one trait |
Allele | A different form of gene |
Probability | The likelihood that a posible future event will occur in any given instance |
Purebred | Genes are the same for each trait |
Hybrid | Genes are different for that trait |
