cytoplasm | watery material around organelles |
cytoskeleton | maintains cell shape with a network of protein filaments |
smooth endoplasmic reticulum | helps make lipids and stores them in tubular like network |
eukaryote | organism whose cells contain a nucleus (hint: you) |
golgi bodies | attaches carbohydrates and lipids to proteins using enzymes |
mitochondria | uses energy from food to make high energy compounds; the cell’s powerhouse |
nucleus | controls most cell processes and contains DNA; brain of the cell |
organelle | specialized structures within a cell that perform important cell functions |
prokaryote | organism whose cells do not contain a nucleus (hint: P = primitive) |
ribosome | factories for making proteins |
vacuole | sac like structures for storage of water, salts, proteins and carbohydrates |
selectively permeable | some substances can pass across and others can't |
Nuclear Envelope | membrane that encases the nucleus |
Nucleolus | structure in the nucleus made of RNA and protein |
Vesicle | transport various items into and out of the cell |
Lysosomes | break down old cell parts and fight off pathogens |
