Term | Definition |
Protoplasmic | single celled organism (archeans, bacteria, protists) |
Asymmetry | No way to cut body exactly in half |
Spherical | any plane passing through the exact center of the body will cut it in half |
Radial | Bowl or vased shape organisms (cnidarians, sponges) |
Protostome | mouth forms first |
Coelom | place in the animal where the organs are found |
Protostome division | spiral cleavage, new cells are smaller added towards inside of embryo |
Deuterostome | radial cleavage, new cells are formed evenly sized added externally |
Mosaic | Early specialization of cells, embryo is broken apart incomplete defective embryos form |
Relative | Late specialization of cells, embryo is broken apart each continues normal development |
Protostome Types | Lophotrochozoans, ecdysozoans |
Sponges are | Metazoans, lack symmetry, most lack true tissues |
Asconoid | simplest, smallest, least efficient |
Syconoid | intermediate in size and efficiency, fold in body makes space for chanocytes |
Leuconoid | biggest, most efficient. no central cavity, chambers of chanocytes through body, multiple opportunities to obtain food |
