Solar System | Consists of the sun,planets their moons, meteors, astroids and comets |
Milky Way Galaxy | the galaxy in whichsolar system is located |
Gravity | the force that pulls two objects together; it pulls us towards eath and it keeps the planets motion around the sun |
astronomy | The studies of the moon, stars, and other objects in space |
axis | an imaginery line that passes through Earth's center and and the north and south pole, about which earth rotates |
rotation | the spinning motion of a planet about its axis |
revolution | the movment of an object around another object ( planets revolve around the sun; moon(s) revolve around their planets) |
orbit | the path of an object as it revolves around another object in space |
tides | the daily rise and fall of Earth's water on shore |
Gravity 2nd Definition | The attractive force between two objects; its magnitude depends on their masses and the distance between them |
satellite | any object that revolves around another object |
phase | one of the diffrent shapes of the moon as seen from Earth |
crater | A round pit on the moon's surface |
maria | dark, falt regions on the moon's surface |
core | the centeral part of the sun, where Nuclear fusion occurs |
comet | (dirty snow) a ball of ice and dust whose orbit is usally a long narrow ellipe; it has a "glowwing tail' up to 100 miles long |
asteroid | (minor planet or planetoids) : objects revolving around the sun that are too small ant too numerous to be considered planets |
asteroid belt | the region of the solarsystem between the orbits of mars and jupiter, where many asteriod are found |
meteoroid | a chunck of rock or dust in space |
meteor | (shoting star ) a streak of light in the sky produced by the burning of a meteoroid in Earth's atmosphere |
meteorite | a meteoride that has hit Earth's surface |
Space station | a man-made laboratory orbiting the earth |
