| Term | Definition |
| Solar System | Consists of the Sun, planets, their moons, meteors, asteroids, and comets. |
| Milky Way Galaxy | The galaxy in which our solar system is located. |
| Gravity | The force that pulls two objects together; it pulls us toward Earth and it keeps the planets in motion around the sun. |
| Astronomy | The study of the moon, stars and other objects in space. |
| Axis | An imaginary line that passes through Earth's center and the north and the south poles, about which the Earth rotates. |
| Rotation | The spinning motion of a planet about its axis. |
| Revolution | The movement of an object around another object. |
| Orbit | The path of an object as it revolves around another object in space. |
| Tides | The daily rise and fall of Earth's waters on shores. |
| Gravity | The attractive force between two objects; its magnitude depends on their masses and the distance between them. |
| Satellite | Any object that revolves around another object. |
| Phase | One of the shapes of the moon as seen form Earth. |
| Crater | A round pit of the moon's surface. |
| Maria | Dark,flat regions on the moons surface. |
| Core | The central part of the sun, where nuclear fusion occurs. |
| Comet | A ball of ice and dust whose orbit is usually a long, narrow eclipse; it has a "glowing tail" up to 100 million miles long. |
| Asteroids | Objects revolving around the sun that are too small and too numerous to be considered planets. |
| Asteroid belt | The region of the solar system between the orbits of mars and jupiter, where many asteroids are found. |
| Meteoroid | A chunk of rock or dust in space. |
| Meteorite | A meteoroid that has hit Earth's surface. |
| Space Station | A man made laboratory orbiting Earth. |
