Term | Definition |
behavior | all of the actions an organism performs |
instinct | behavior that is inborn and performed correctly the first time; no teaching or practice involved |
society | A group of closely related animals of the same species that work together in a highly organized way |
pheromone | A chemical released by one animal that affects the behavior of another animal of the same species |
migration | moving twice a year to an area that provides a lot of food or a good environment for reproduction and growth |
courtship behaviors | actions designed to attract a mate |
cooperative behaviors | working together to accomplish things that couldn't be done alone; strength in numbers |
learning | the process that leads to changes in behavior; requires practice or experience |
imprinting | instinct of a newly hatched bird or neborn mammal to recognize and follow the first moving object they see after birth |
territory | area that is occupied and defended by an animal or group of animals. |
incubation | parents sitting on eggs to keep them warm during development of embryo |
