Term | Definition |
Carrier | Does not show disease symptoms but can pass on the disease causing allele to offspring |
Sex-Linked Genes | Genes located on the sex chromosomes |
X Chromosome inactivation | In each cell of female mammals, one of the two X chromosomes is randomly "turned off" |
Incomplete Dominance | A heterozygous phenotype is somewhere between the two homozygous phenotypes Neither traits are dominant |
Codominance | Both traits are fully and separately expressed |
Polygenic Traits | Traits produced by two or more genes |
Epistasis | When a gene overshadows the others EX. Albinism |
Pedigree Chart | Helps trace the phenotypes and genotypes in a family to determine whether people carry recessive alleles |
Karyotype | A picture of all the chromosomes in a cell. Can show changes to chromosomes. |
