| Term | Definition |
| Axon | The long part of the cell down which the electrical impulse travels |
| Soma | The proper name for the cell body |
| Myelin | The name of the stuff that insulates part of the neuron to help with the transmission of the electrical impulse. |
| Synapse | The gap between two neighbouring neurons. |
| Neurotransmitter | The chemical that travel across the gap between two neurons. |
| Dendrites | The branch-like part of the neuron that pick up and pass on messages. |
| Receptor | The part of the neuron that picks up the chemical message from a neighbouring cell. |
| Reuptake | the process of the neuron taking back any excess chemicals from the gap between neurons. |
