Neurons

TermDefinition
Axon The long part of the cell down which the electrical impulse travels
Soma The proper name for the cell body
Myelin The name of the stuff that insulates part of the neuron to help with the transmission of the electrical impulse.
Synapse The gap between two neighbouring neurons.
Neurotransmitter The chemical that travel across the gap between two neurons.
Dendrites The branch-like part of the neuron that pick up and pass on messages.
Receptor The part of the neuron that picks up the chemical message from a neighbouring cell.
Reuptake the process of the neuron taking back any excess chemicals from the gap between neurons.
