Stratus Clouds | blanket like layers that often produce long steady precipitation |
Cumulus | Puffy clouds with a flat bottom and that bring fair weather |
Cirrus Clouds | Wispy, feather like shape; seen sunny days |
Cumulonimbus Clouds | produce heavy and brief thunderstorms and the only clouds to form vertically (up and down) |
Fog | low level stratus clouds |
Rain | falls through warm air from the cloud all the way to the ground |
Snow | falls through cold air from the cloud to the ground |
Sleet | falls as a raindrop from the cloud and then falls through cold air at the ground “frozen raindrop” |
Hail | produced by a cumulonimbus cloud- moves up and down in the cloud and grows larger and larger. |
